Team building principles at ASH Software House Ltd

As for any company, team building at ASH is an inevitable part of an employee’s life. There are many ways to do this, but we certainly agree that these types of events do not always achieve their goals.

Almost everyone has unpleasant, negative experiences that make one think they wish they should never have attended any kind of team building event. But who is to blame for these? An employer who organized an inappropriate program, or perhaps the attitude of an employee who failed to take it easy.

These events are basically not organized to embarrass employees. An event like this might a way of rewarding employees to enhance loyalty and cooperation towards the company. Moreover, the real goal of a successful team building session is to build a good community. Integrating into a team is our basic need. Outside our workplace, it’s a simple, everyday process, as we choose our hobbies, our free time activities, the people we want to surround ourselves with. We join a company of people who we choose and we share common interests and activities with .

In contrast, our workplace is quite different. We are not selected on the basis of how well we can get along with each other or on the basis of having common interests. It doesn’t matter if it’s a company with hundreds of employees or a small business with 5-10 employees. It’s pretty much impossible for everyone to get along well with everyone and find the common voice. But you don’t even have to all your colleagues. However, there are a number of reasons why community building is important at a workplace. For those working for the same company the common goal is to ensure the survival of the company. To do this you need to be able to cooperate and there is no participant who is indispensable to achieve the bigger goal. In this respect, everyone is equal, from the assistant to the managing director. But it is equally an individual interest to work in a good community as it really matters in what environment one spends a significant part of one’s life.

It is definitely worth keeping in mind that a team building activity should have at least one activity that promotes real team cohesion, because when having dinner it is likely that those who would do it at the workplace would contact each other, so there should be an activity where those are “forced” to cooperate would not do it otherwise. Without it, there is no point in calling the event a team building program. Many times at such events, people realize that they have more in common than they first thought.

While not everyone benefits from the mandatory team building, we still think it’s worth organizing and giving a chance to these types of programs. Whether someone is open to team building or not, one thing is for sure: on the following days after the program you have to work together with the people you had previously rejected during the team building activity, It doesn’t necessarily create an optimal work environment. In the long run, anyone who completely withdraws from community life at work will not feel comfortable and it might have a negative effect on their performance at work.

At ASH Software House Ltd., we, employees, work as a real team every day in a balanced way respecting each other’s personalities, attitudes and working methods. At the same time team building plays an important role in our everyday life.

Most often we organize our team-building events in the afternoon, where professional presentations and shorter trainings are included in the agenda, and then the team turns to more casual programs such as table football championships, dinner with relaxing drinks, conversations or lots of board games fun.

“The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” as it is often said so cooking together is also a real team building program. We participated in the Chefparade team building cooking program in Etyek several times. In a cozy and familiar environment, as a result of an outdoor and indoor cooking, stirring and tasting is a surprisingly fine reward for dinner, to the greatest satisfaction to all team members.

But our team made it to the „Kadarka Tour” in Szekszárd, we watched the Soccer World Cup semi-final together in Darshan Bar, and on a voluntary basis there was already we had a movie-watching afternoon, smoothing our wrinkled foreheads with a drink. We had a really memorable year end closing in Monor, where we also had a playfully serious team building session behind us, where we spent 3 substansive, rich but useful days under the direction of the well-known coaching couple - dr Dr. Levente Komor and László Oliser.

We look forward to the next! 😊
